We are delighted to have contributed to a fundraising event for the Dorset charity, YMCA Bournemouth.
On Friday 13th October (an ominous date!), some of the students at Poole High School took part in the YMCA Bournemouth’s “Sleep Easy” fundraising event. Each year, the YMCA Bournemouth encourages schools, businesses and individuals across Dorset, to raise funds for the charity, by “sleeping rough for one night, so others don’t have to”.
Throughout the year, ‘Sleep Easy’ participants fundraise for YMCA Bournemouth and then on the night of their challenge event, build shelters out of cardboard boxes, before spending a night (in a safe environment) ‘sleeping rough so others don’t have to’. The team at Poole High School braved the elements in the evening of a very stormy day, and made their shelters using donated Wessex Packaging cardboard boxes, to sleep in overnight!
As a family-owned and run packaging business, serving customers across Dorset, Somerset, Devon, Bristol and South Wales, we were pleased to have been able to help supply plenty of cardboard boxes from our packaging supplies for the event.
Jill Buller, of Poole High School, said: “Our students did a remarkable job in their fundraising for this year’s “Sleep Easy” challenge, and did an amazing job building their shelters for the night, on a day that had seen a yellow weather warning issued! We’d like to thank the team at Wessex Packaging for their help with donating and delivering the cardboard boxes for our students to sleep in, it was much appreciated.”
Steve Chipchase, Wessex Packaging’s Account Manager in Dorset, said: “Well done to everyone who took part in the challenge, it certainly wasn’t made easy by the weather, but the students at Poole High School did an wonderful job. We’re very pleased to have been able to help, and wish the students and the team at YMCA Bournemouth every success in their fundraising activities.”
The YMCA Bournemouth has raised thousands of pounds, over recent years, through the ‘Sleep Easy Challenge’ – which has gone towards tackling some of the issues of homelessness and to offer support to local homeless people.
