How do I measure a box?
Box measurements are always show as the internal dimensions, so that you can easily calculate whether your items will fit within it.
Box dimensions are shown as : Length x Width x Height
Measurements are shown in millimetres (mm) for greater accuracy.
Length = this is the longest side when looking at the base of the box.
Width (or Breadth) = this is the shortest side when looking at the base of the box.
Height (or Depth) = this is the measurement from the base to the top.
What size will I need for my items?
Firstly, we recommend using a tape measure for accuracy.
Arrange the items or items as if you were putting them in a box and then measure the length, width, and height of the items together. This will help give you the internal dimensions need to box the items.
Don’t forget to allow space for as much protective packaging (ie void fill, paper, bubble wrap etc) to surround and protect your items. This protective packaging will help keep your items more secure in transit or storage and help protect against damage.
Also, don’t forget to note which way you are placing the items, so that you can judge the length, width and height in the right order.
What type of box do I need?
There is a wide range of box types available and your choice should be made by considering what fits your items most appropriately, the weight of the product and what the box will be used for eg storage, posting, shipping, transportation, stacking etc.
Single, double, and triple wall boxes are some of the most common types of box and provide a range of strength, durability and rigidity that will help you decide what’s best for your items.
What is a triple wall box?
A triple wall box provides that third layer of corrugation to make the card even stronger and more rigid.
With three layers of corrugated (wavy) paper interleaved with two lining pieces and two outer pieces of paper, the overall effect of seven layers of paper creates one of the most robust types of cardboard box available.
Triple wall boxes are used for heavier items and where extra stability, security and protections is needed. Used for packing items for shipping and exporting, and when stacking or multiple loading / unloading of loads occurs.
