Paper tape is an eco-friendly tape made from kraft paper, and has a natural or synthetic adhesive backing so it can stick to cardboard boxes just like traditional plastic tape. Unlike plastic tape it is fully recyclable, making it a great choice for sustainable e-commerce packaging. Brown kraft paper tape also looks more appealing then plastic, which is why it is commonly used in retail dispatch and e-commerce lines. Gummed paper tape also known as WAT (water-activated tape), is a kraft paper tape that has a dried plant-based adhesive on the back. It requires water to active the glue, using a machine dispenser. Once applied, it forms a strong, tamper-proof seal by bonding with the cardboard fibres. This is the best option for heavy or high-value shipments, as it is stronger than standard paper tape. It also gives parcels a clean, premium finish, as the tape can be cut to a specific sizes in the gummed paper tape machine for a perfect fit.
